Half the time it couldn’t even see any networks at all and, even when it can, it refuses to connect to anything – even unsecured networks – so I’ve gone back to using Network Manager. I’ve also tried wicd instead of NetworkManager. Hello and thanks Seth, I can’t uoad the rfkill as my laptop overheated and am currently writing this on my blackberry. Im trying to update to ubuntu I still wouldn’t rule out the router as the culprit either.

Restarted the machine twice, every time af5001 login WIFI was connecting to the router. From the terminal entered the command rfkill list the output was Soft blocked: Marvell Technology Group Ltd.
