Be careful, I got chastised for buying tubes on eBay!!! Sockets are designed to allow tubes to be plugged in only one orientation. It looked like it was manufactured 6 months ago instead of 60 years! Some tubes have top connections.

Look for companies that supply tubes to radio restortion type people. This tube is untested therefore sold as is. They are a rather common and cheap tube. If you use a metal tube be sure pin 1 isn’t connected to any voltage and is grounded. But I’ve never used either one! May Thu 15, 2: I just bought 8 of them last week.

Last edited by JC ; at The braid is soldered onto the top cap. I was looking at the photo of the installed tube that you posted and I just noticed that the shield braid seems to be disconnected from the top cap.
Books Support This Site: Ask for a 6J7 in the classifieds. I attach here a schematic of the preamp section, in case it helps.
I don’t know much 6i7 the differences between the metal and glass versions. That can is the shield, note the shielded cable shield is soldered to it. Have a Philco in the pile that is missing a 6J7 tube.
/ 6J7 special quality for microphonics
And this is the tube schematic: Forgot about that site’s feature – thanks! I have an old Oahu Valco made tube amp. I can always make believe they sound better, cuz they cost more The radio would have originally used a 6J7G glass, shouldered, bakelite base. The shielding cap is grounded as Enzo pointed out.
